Energy/Energy Guides

At the initiative of the Inter-Environnement Wallonie NGO, an energy sheet has been compiled for each municipality. The action aims to visualize activities undertaken by the municipalities with regard to energy.

In 2002, the municipality joined a PALME programme (programme for local activities for controlling energy). This programme run by the Ministry of the Walloon Region was initiated in order to support the municipalities in taking voluntary actions regarding the rational use of energy and the development of renewable energies. It enabled the implementation of the monitoring of energy consumption in municipal buildings, the carrying out of various studies to enable the better management of energy and eventually a reduction in energy consumption, and the increasing of awareness and knowledge of energy issues among the public.

If you want to know more about what has happened in our three years of PALME participation, download the report.
The conclusion of the programme has not resulted in the end of the various activities taking part in our municipality. Since 2007, the Municipal Council, Public Social Action Centre, and Centre for the Méhaigne and the Rural Environment have all agreed to take part in the Défi pour la Terre (Earth Challenge)movement.
The Internet site suggests a series of actions that can be applied to each of the parts of our life: At home, school, at work, and even in the street.

Our everyday consumption of water, energy and so on place a pressure on the planet. However, we can reduce our impact on the environment with simple gestures that we can implement on a daily basis.
However, we can reduce our impact on the environment with simple gestures that we can implement on a daily basis.

No action is pointless, so be quick - each gesture counts!

Other actions at municipal level are still ongoing such as the integration of energy analyses when renovating the municipal buildings zone, the monitoring of consumption, and the granting of a municipal subsidy for the installation of a solar water heating system (EUR 250).€ The applicant simply sends a written request to the Municipal Assembly along with a copy of the file submitted to the Walloon Region and a copy of the letter granting the regional subsidy.
At the moment, the principal work areas are:
  • Public lighting
  • The lighting of monuments
  • Installation of a cogeneration plant
  • Installation of photovoltaic panels
If you have any questions on the rational utilization of energy, please contact the Braives energy advisers.
