Antisocial Behaviour

It cannot be ignored that from time to time special cases arrive at our offices, such as the construction and operation of industrial pig farms or the burying of high-voltage lines.
The possible problems and ramifications of such cases are studied by the service within the context of the submitted lodged permits and the well-being of the population.

Moreover, although it does not actually fall within our field of responsibility, many of you involve us in disputes with neighbours. Disagreements are often caused by poor communication between neighbours and generally take the form of minor irritations imposed upon one's fellow inhabitants such as failure to maintain shared hedges, barking dogs, fires in gardens, bins, and rubbish that is left lying around etc..

The offended neighbour does not hesitate to retaliate and the situation can escalate extremely quickly.
Such situations fall within the jurisdiction of the Justice of the Peace (in the case of our municipality, this is the Justice of the Peace of Hannut, tel.: 019/51.96.00). Once the case has been lodged, it is generally impossible to go back upon and your relations with your neighbours will be even worse.
Before getting to this stage, you should make one last attempt at dialogue: Try to speak to your neighbour again and explain what's troubling you. Make it clear that it's more sensible to make an effort to resolve the situation.
